Key Activities

The BiCRS Project in Cameroon transforms local waste wood into a long-term climate solution. In the project area, large quantities of sawmill residues are routinely burned or left to decompose, contributing to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. By diverting this biomass into engineered anaerobic storage structures, the project prevents emissions and converts a waste stream into a durable carbon sink.

Designed as a scalable, high-impact pilot, the project aims to become a blueprint for biomass storage deployments across the Global South. It is supported by a Memorandum of Understanding with the community of Koundi, confirming their willingness to jointly implement the biomass storage project and providing a strong foundation for land access and project implementation.

Turning Waste Wood into a Climate Asset in Cameroon

The Carbonsate Cameroon I Biomass Storage project tackles land degradation, deforestation, and limited rural energy access by capturing and storing waste wood from local sawmills. Instead of being burned or abandoned, this biomass is placed in carefully-engineered anaerobic storage cells, locking away carbon and avoiding emissions over the project’s lifetime.

From UV index to soil moisture and pH levels, key environmental metrics are monitored using AI, sensor networks, and satellite technology, ensuring transparency and integrity from biomass storage to long-term climate impact.
