Key Activities

Namibia faces significant ecological pressures, including desertification, invasive plant species, and the increasing frequency of wildfires. The removal of excess biomass as part of the project helps restore natural ecosystems, improves soil and water availability, and reduces the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.

The harvested biomass is carefully stored under controlled conditions to ensure long-term carbon sequestration, preventing it from decomposing or being burned. The durability of this storage is verified using transparent monitoring and scientific assessments, ensuring credibility and permanence in carbon removal.

The Carbonate Namibia initiative is a scalable series of biomass storage project phases implemented in geographic proximity within Namibia. All project phases utilize the same type of local waste biomass and follow a replicable construction and monitoring design, adapted to local site conditions.

Carbonate Namibia I Biomass Storage

The BiCRS Project phase “Carbonate Namibia I Biomass Storage” focuses on storing locally sourced waste biomass in long-term terrestrial storage structures. This prevents emissions that would otherwise arise from decomposition or open burning, while simultaneously contributing to ecosystem restoration and rural development.

Planned SDG Impact

The project supports multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by permanently removing carbon from the atmosphere, creating local jobs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from waste biomass, and improving land productivity and ecological function.

2.05 Million tCO₂e – Climate Action

An estimated 2.05 million tCO₂e of emissions will be avoided over the project’s lifetime by preventing the decomposition or pile burning of waste wood biomass.

Job Creation – Decent Work & Growth

The project creates jobs across construction, biomass handling, logistics, and monitoring, and enables new income streams from the use of previously wasted biomass.

Greenhouse Emission Reduction

Without this project, wood biomass residues from timber processing would remain underutilized or be burned, causing greenhouse gas emissions and local air quality degradation.

Productivity & Ecological Function

Around 71 hectares of land were cleared of invasive scrub to provide biomass for this project, resulting in improved pasture productivity and ecological function.

Emission Reduction Plan for the First 5 Years According to the PDD

The table below outlines the planned emission reductions for the first five years of the project:

PeriodtCO₂e
2025–202621,110
2026–202728,000
2027–202850,000
2028–2029100,000
2029–2030100,000
Total Emission Reduction299,110

Integrity Beyond Standards, AI-Based Real-Time Monitoring

Our proprietary digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) solution delivers real-time data and actionable insights across the entire carbon project lifecycle. Intuitive, tailored dashboards provide seamless validation, monitoring, and reporting, accessible anytime to project stakeholders.

From UV index to soil moisture and pH levels, key environmental metrics are tracked using AI, sensors, and satellite technology. This ensures transparent, high-integrity carbon accounting that goes beyond standard requirements.
