Econetix Closes Million-Dollar CORSIA Supply Deal with RWE Supply & Trading

Vienna-based carbon asset managing and project developing company signed large CORSIA offtake agreement with one of the world’s leading energy trading houses.

Vienna, Austria, August 2026: Econetix, a carbon asset manager and project developer specialising in high-integrity carbon credit origination and CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) compliance, today announced a CORSIA forward supply agreement with RWE Supply & Trading, one of the world’s leading energy trading businesses.

Under the agreement, Econetix will supply CORSIA-eligible carbon credits from its certified project portfolio to RWE Supply & Trading. RWE will act as a commercial intermediary between Econetix and compliance-driven demand from the global CORSIA market, using its global trading platform, customer relationships and market expertise to bring these credits to the international aviation sector. The agreement also reflects RWE’s early commercial commitment to future eligible supply ahead of the first CORSIA compliance deadline.

The agreement is Econetix’s next major CORSIA supply deal, following agreements with SCB Environmental Markets and SmartestEnergy, and further confirms the growing institutional demand for Econetix’s CORSIA-eligible supply.

Aviation's Compliance Countdown

Aviation is on a compliance clock. Under CORSIA, ICAO’s scheme for international aviation, airlines must offset the growth in their emissions by cancelling eligible carbon credits, with the first cancellation deadline in January 2028. The market is shifting fast from voluntary, pilot-scale buying to large-scale, compliance-grade procurement.

Demand for CORSIA-eligible credits runs into the hundreds of millions of tonnes, while only a small share of the volume airlines will need has so far been authorised by host countries. Industry estimates put first-phase compliance costs in the billions of dollars. Closing this gap between committed demand and certified, authorised supply is the challenge Econetix was built to solve.

A Repeatable CORSIA Supply Operation

Econetix is one of few companies globally with the technical depth and commercial track record to operate across the full CORSIA supply value chain, from project development and Article 6 authorisation through Corresponding Adjustment processes, Registry labelling, and commercial execution.

Econetix is advancing more than ten projects across the DRC, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Rwanda, and Sierra Leone through Article 6 authorisation and CORSIA certification pathways. Forward agreements such as the one with RWE Supply & Trading give buyers early, secured access to this supply ahead of the first compliance deadline.

Jakob Zenz, CEO of Econetix, said: “Working with a major energy player like RWE Supply & Trading proves that Econetix is a key CORSIA supplier at scale, from project development in the host countries to certified credits delivered into the aviation market.”

Kirsten Lefter, Head of Carbon Credit Trading & Origination at RWE Supply & Trading, added: “We at RWE want to connect high-integrity supply with compliance-driven demand, particularly from airlines preparing for CORSIA. By committing early, we help make future supply bankable while giving customers access to credible, eligible credits ahead of the compliance deadlines.”

About CORSIA

CORSIA, the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, is the International Civil Aviation Organization’s global market-based measure to address CO₂ emissions from international flights. Airlines must offset emissions above 85% of 2019 levels by cancelling eligible emissions units. The first cancellations, covering the 2024 to 2026 first phase, are due by January 2028, with a second phase running through 2035. To qualify, credits must be authorised by their host country under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, carry a corresponding adjustment that prevents double counting, and be labelled in the relevant registry.
