DRC Extends Econetix Authorization to 2.75 Million Tonnes, Portfolio Reaches 14.5 Million Across Three Countries
The Democratic Republic of the Congo authorizes up to an additional 2,000,000 tCOu2082e under Econetixu2019s clean energy programme, covering every further activity added under the same programme, with vintages authorized through 2033 for CORSIA Phase 1 and Phase 2
Vienna, Austria, 22 September 2026: Econetix, a leading global carbon asset manager, today announced that the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has extended its Letter of Authorization in favour of Econetix by up to an additional 2,000,000 tCOu2082e. Together with the 750,000 tCOu2082e authorized in March 2026, the DRC has now authorized a cumulative maximum of 2,750,000 tCOu2082e. The extension was issued in Kinshasa on 1 September 2026 and signed by H.E. Prof. Marie Nyange Ndambo, Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development and the New Climate Economy, acting as Designated National Authority and National Focal Point for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
The extension takes Econetix to over 14.5 million tCOu2082e of authorized, CORSIA eligible volume across three host countries: Uganda with up to 10,000,000 tCOu2082e, the DRC with up to 2,750,000 tCOu2082e and Rwanda with 1,766,234 tCOu2082e. Three Letters of Authorization in three countries, all secured since March 2026, with more than ten further projects advancing through authorization.
What the Extension Covers
The authorization applies to the Gold Standard Programme of Activities GS12469, u201cUplifting communities through clean energy in the DRCu201d, implemented with ALTECH GROUP as project implementation partner, and to its registered Voluntary Project Activities GS12470 for solar lamps and GS12620 for clean and improved cookstoves. It also applies to any further Voluntary Project Activity registered under GS12469, covered upon registration without a new Letter of Authorization. Econetix may contract further implementation, distribution, monitoring and service partners without a further authorization and remains the authorized entity responsible towards the Ministry.
Methodologies and Vintages
The extension covers AMS III.AR and PULSE for GS12470 and TPDDTEC and RECH v5 for GS12620. Both the previously applicable and the current methodologies remain valid, and a transition to a subsequent approved version or a successor methodology approved by the Gold Standard requires no further Letter of Authorization. The first letter authorizes vintages 2023 to 2030, the extension vintages 2026 to 2033, so the cumulative 2,750,000 tCOu2082e spans vintages 2023 through 2033 for use as Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes under Article 6.2 and for Other International Mitigation Purposes, explicitly including ICAOu2019s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation. The volume is usable for CORSIA Phase 1, where airlines must cancel eligible units by 31 January 2028, and into Phase 2.
The DRC has confirmed that it will not use the authorized emission reductions towards its Nationally Determined Contribution and will apply a corresponding adjustment, with the National Registry of the DRC serving as registry of record. Once mitigation outcomes have been issued in reliance on the authorization, it shall not be revoked, except in cases of fraud or material misrepresentation. Next issuance of Gold Standard credits from the programme is expected in October 2026.
